I am a Pepperdine University graduate with a joint degree in International Studies and Spanish.
I'm a bubbly, outgoing person that enjoys helping others learn and perform at their max!
I'm all about fixing unproductive learning environments, helping students get organized, and getting to the bottom of low performance. More times than not, I find the best solution to poor grades is by boosting a student's self-confidence while simultaenously introducing them to the tools that will make them more successful in school. I taught middle school in the past in some of America's toughest neighborhoods through Teach for America, and achieved RESULTS! Just as much as I like helping "the underdog," I also enjoy working at an accelerated pace with those high-achievers that wish they were challenged more at school. I am very comfortable working with gifted students, and thrive on the challenge that I have to keep them one step ahead of the curve. I am also happy to help adult learners achieve their professional goals-- from editing a resume to practicing English at a quiet café.
My experience teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects, standardized tests, and types of learners makes me an ideal person to take your child to the next level. I was a director at a tutoring chain in the past, which gave me a lot of experience working with homeschoolers and families seeking highly customized lessons. Furthermore, as a writer and published author, I am fully prepared to help students develop their reading and writing skills, and learn to navigate the writing process without fear. I take kids that don't like writing and turn them into future essayists and novelists! When it comes to math, I know how to get results too! Students that struggle with mathematical concepts find working with me helps ease their frustration. I use educationally proven strategies to take the mystery out of math, and my low-performing students quickly become mathematicians! When it comes to learning about history, other cultures, and languages, I have the background to bring these concepts into context for my students. From living abroad and studying International Relations, to being fluent in Spanish and interning at the Embassy of Argentina in D.C. as a college student, I bring a sense of adventure and culture to my lessons!
I use lots of engaging manipulatives and strategies that kids enjoy using to learn!
As an author of both adult fiction and young adult stories, I love to read and write. I make reading a positive experience with my own attitude, and by teaching students how to read effectively using researched-proven strategies.
I have over 10+ years teaching standardized tests, including the SSAT in all levels. I absolutely love getting the call from parents after finding out their student got accepted into the private school they wanted!
I was one of two students in my AP U.S. History class in high school to get a 5 on the exam--a fact I'm not too proud to boast about to this day, because I know how hard I worked for that grade. You can earn a 5 too, using the same strategies I used.
